A Letter From Our Founder

As a recent retiree, I wanted to invest my time in something to keep me active, as I feared that with all of this free time I would end up sitting on the couch playing on my Ipad all day. Not long before retiring, I had purchased a fixer-upper “cottage” built in the 1930’s, determined to bring it back to its original glory. While working to  improve the home, I often found myself considering how the first owners must have lived and coped with no electric, running water, or even an indoor bathroom. 

Life was much simpler back then. People spent their time out and about the little town taking care of weekly errands. Neighbors would wave while walking by as others were sitting on their front porches sipping iced tea. There was community support, neighbors helping neighbors. It was a quieter world, a more pensive world. Sound was a message and it marked time… the song birds chirping at the break of dawn, the blare of the train whistle as it barreled down the rails, the children running and laughing down the dirt road as they played on their way home from school, and the pealing of the church bells calling the parishioners to Sunday service.

I came to the cottage to give it a new life, but instead it gave life back to me tenfold. I wanted to share this feeling with others and bring back some of the simpler pleasures, products, and talents that seemed to have faded in this bustling technological world! This was my eureka moment and the inspiration for RoseCraft Cottage.
